Felt Letter with blanket stitch

I make a lot of these felt letters as gifts. They are cheap & easy to make but look so good!! My kids have them also.

I pre-decorated a felt letter to show you how to finish it off.

Pin the pieces together with ribbon pre sewn to back.

Thread an embroidery needle with a full strand (about 6 thinner strands) & knot.

Insert needle between layers from back to front of front piece.

CIMG8883

Pull through & take to back of back piece & insert in line with front keep the length of thread to the right of the needle.

Now insert needle 1 cm to the right from back of letter right through to the front.

CIMG8890

Before you pull it through fully leave a small loop.

CIMG8891

Pop needle through loop to the back & pull.

CIMG8892

You have your first stitch. Now repeat all the way round, go slow or your thread will tangle.

CIMG8894

When you get to a corner insert needle closer to the previous stitch in line with the corner.

CIMG8898

Should end up with a neat ‘curve’. You might like to trim felt corner.

When get to ribbon continue as before but instead of inserting needle from back do it in 1 step as shown.

CIMG8901

To finish a thread insert needle at same point as last stitch & knot throught the loop.

Once you’ve mad it all round leave enough thread to finish off & pin it to project for now.

Stuff till you can’t fit any more in.

Pinching layers together to contain the filling carry on with your stitching.

Doing it like this allows to stuff as much in as possible at the end securing as yougo .

VOILA!

Could join them up to make words or names:
